SENIOR CAPSTONE
“Femme Rebellion”
For my senior capstone project I wrote, designed and laid out a 24 page magazine that tackles this internal conflict I have with beauty standards. It features 7 articles and professional photographs. Through this project I highlighted the importance of self love while also being honest about how society informs and prolongs beauty standards via social media.
The process
I started this process by looking for inspiration from fashion magazines like Vogue and Cosmopolitan. I ripped out pages that I liked photos from, page layout from and aesthetics from. From there I took notes on different aspects I thought could be implemented into my magazine.
Additionally, I recruited a fellow student Dana to shoot my photos for the magazine. I acted as a creative director during the photoshoot by managing the models and photographer as well as create a shot list and inspiration for my vision.
When creating my branding kit to implement in my magazine, I took inspiration from fashion magazines and my past work projects. I chose fonts, color schemes and design elements to be my guiding north star as I designed and laid out my magazine.
